James McWilliams Blue Line
Tug Saratoga
The Saratoga was fitted out as a harbor, river and coastline tug.
I was a deckhand on the Saratoga the summer of 1957.
The most interesting activities were the trips
up the Conn. River, passage through the Cape Cod Canal and docking-undocking
ocean going freighters.
The highest anxiety activities were putting out and bringing in the hawser during
rough water, making U-turns in the River when suddenly running into fog banks
on close-haul bridles and running with the tide in the Cape Code Canal.
