The following are selected pages from the "Blue Book of Facts of Marine Engineering" 1929.
Due to space and time constraints I did not scan the entire book, however, it is fascinating reading.
How could these early marine engineers, most of whom were lucky to have an 8th grade education, and many of whom
were newly arrived immigrants, have possibly mastered this technical material including the data, charts and equations.

Like most boys growing up -- I never knew how smart my Dad was!

I taught middle and high school math and science for five years after I retired and less than 10% of my students
would be able to read through this book no less master the contents and then pass the Coast Guard licensing tests.

A sobering though is for all those who got their license and then went "deep sea" and were lost to enemy torpedoes
and mines, many didn't get past Atlantic City, NJ.

There indeed was "A Greatest Generation" and these men were at the heart of it!
