A very good first-person and tugboat-family account
of NY harbor, river
and canal tugboating from wooden hull steam tugs to
steel hull diesels.
Written by a professional mariner and presented in
a very personal and
easy to read manner. (Published 1987)

Contains much of the above (1987) book plus expanded
first-hand experiences of WW2
tug and barge activity and the development of the
tugboat business and the working
environments of those who manned these vessels.
Also of great interest to me was the significant Blue
Line boats, experiences and people.
Based on Capt. Godfrey's experiences at Blue Line,
I am sure he knew my Dad.
(Published 1993)

Tugboats of NY is a very high-end coffee-table type
book containing a large number and variety of photos
and descriptions extending from wood-hull steam tugs
to todays high technology tugs.
(I was disappointed in the absence of Blue Line tugs)

The Tugging DVD is very professionally done and is
a joy to watch.
Covers NY tugboats from early Steam up through the
experience of 9/11.
Contains one very short clip of a steam-engine Blue
Line tug.

Irishmen were the primary owners and operators of
tugboat companies in NY harbor.
Norwegians manned many of the tugs and barges and
small tankers as crewmen, engineers and captains.
The NIA has done outstanding work documenting East
Coast Norwegian-American contributions to
East Coast business, culture and infrastructure.

Sissel was a dignitary at the above function.
She is the wonderful Norwegian signer who sang the
original sound track in the movie Titanic.
